Whether you’re an aspiring teacher, pre-med student, or athletic coach, ILI Travel invites you to step beyond the classroom and into real-world, community-based learning in the Dominican Republic. Our internship programs offer participants the opportunity to contribute meaningfully while gaining practical, cross-cultural experience through customized placements—backed by full local support and immersive living.
These internships are ideal for students, recent graduates, or gap year travelers looking to expand their worldview, sharpen their skills, and engage in ethical service abroad.
Who Should Apply?
ILI internships are designed for adults (18+) as well as families seeking hands-on experience in one of the following areas:
- Education – Assist local schools with English instruction, classroom activities, and language workshops.
- Healthcare & Pre-Med – Volunteer at a community hospital. Shadow local clinicians, support wellness outreach, or assist with health education initiatives.
- Sports & Coaching – Collaborate with community sports programs to coach youth in volleyball, baseball, soccer, and fitness.
- Can’t Choose? Combine the experiences.
No advanced credentials are required—just a genuine desire to serve, learn, and grow in community.
Live Like a Local: Homestay Experience
Participants in our Social Impact Internships will live with trusted host families in small, welcoming communities within a reasonable commute from Cabarete, a vibrant beach town famous for its natural beauty, nightlife, and international energy. This is a rare opportunity to experience authentic Dominican life, enjoy home-cooked meals daily, be embraced as a temporary member of a local family, while also having access to one of the famous beach towns in the country.
All accommodations include:
- A private room
- Three home-cooked Dominican meals per day
- Access to clean water and volunteer opportunities in walking distance
- Ongoing support from our local coordinators

Life Beyond the Internship
During your free time, explore the beaches, cafés, art markets, and water sports of Cabarete—just a short ride away. Weekends are yours to relax, join optional excursions, or build friendships with other Interns and community members.
